Selected from 47 international applications for the EUNIC Cluster Fund 2024, the Namibian Solarpunk project is brought to life by Namibian artist Vitjitua Ndjiharine and Spanish artist Rocío Asensi, following their selection earlier this year. Together, they imagine a future where technology, ecology, and culture coexist in harmony — rooted in Namibian identity and the nation’s vast solar and wind resources.

The project explores a plausible, community-driven, and sustainable future through the lens of Solarpunk — an artistic movement that rebels against dystopian narratives by imagining hopeful, regenerative worlds. Set against Namibia’s radiant landscapes, the exhibition presents futuristic, utopian architectural concepts that fuse local craftsmanship with global ideas of clean energy and ecological balance.

“What excites me most about this project,” said Vitjitua Ndjiharine, “is thinking about how Solarpunk values are already part of our daily lives — through community living, farming, crafting, and our deep connection to the land.”

Spanish collaborator Rocío Asensi shared, “My goal is to offer a vision that bridges tradition and innovation, fostering collaboration between communities and celebrating Namibia’s natural richness.”

The artists spent three weeks in residency in Swakopmund, where they combined structures, paintings, and audio recordings into a powerful body of work. Their collaboration culminated in a travelling exhibition, with the FNCC Gallery hosting its Windhoek premiere from 30 October to 14 November 2025.

More than an art exhibition, Solarpunk: A Story of Sand and Energy stands as a message of hope — one that dares to imagine and build a livable, just, and sustainable future for all.
